Two Mums Start a Business After Living Through The Mess Themselves...
Written by J. Peck
Manuela Lord and Teri Hart first met while their children attended Montessori School. They both shared similar interests, activities... and busy households! Through their friendship, they began working on projects together - projects that usually involved organizing and de-cluttering their children's play areas and maximizing the space in their homes. Manuela and Teri were a bit ahead of the times as "Decluttering Your Home" and "How to Stop The Mess" are hot topics featured in all of the home-magazines these days!
With four children, Teri knows that there's never enough time to find things at the last minute. She focused on her "mud room" as her first project. By creating a cubby for each child with hooks for hanging up jackets and snow pants and baskets for mittens, her children could easily help keep the entrance to her home neat and organized.
Colour coding each child's accessories also helps keep the order. One of Manuela's daughters loves purple - so personal possessions like her hairbrush, toothbrush, favourite cup, etc are purple. That way, little ones can help get organized by easily identifying their own belongings.
After analyzing the businesses operating in the Simcoe County and surrounding area, Teri and Manuela found that no one else was offering the customized services that they envisioned. In August of 2008, Burrows Customized Organization was born. “At Burrows we understand the need to feel at ease in your home. The interconnected chambers of your home are like a burrow. Our expertise will make your space work for you!” says Manuela. (web site www.burrowsorganization.com )
Burrows has been transforming people’s homes! One of their more interesting projects involved organizing a garage for a couple with a passion for cars and tools! A number of families in the Simcoe County area have freshly organized entrances to their homes. "One of our biggest challenges was a children's play area with whimsical, yet practical storage features" says Teri, “It was really fun to use our creative talent with our practical and organized discipline.”
